If you have been lucky enough to have visited the Seychelles before, you know that it is a magical place, with bright blue waters and long white beaches – it is basically paradise. So it shouldn’t be a surprise to hear that Six Senses have opened their latest resort Six Senses Zil Pasyon here. Set on the private island of Félicité, within the archipelago of 115 islands in the Indian Ocean off East Africa, it is home to coral reefs and massive granite rocks. With an ever lasting summer season, the resort provides guests with that personal destination stay, embracing nature and offering the ultimate luxury experience.

Arriving by private helicopter from Seychelles International Airport (SEZ), guests can enjoy any one of the 30 villas, each with its own private pool and a locally inspired interior, overlooking the Indian Ocean. Around the resort the hotel is a place to awaken the senses and create exceptional experiences, from Seychellois culinary creations to snorkelling and nature trails, and lets not forget… a beautiful library.

Ultimate Library was asked to partner with Six Senses Zil Pasyon when still in its infancy in 2014. Working with the hotel and wider Six Senses team, Ultimate Library provided sample books, to show island intelligence and a sense of place, initially within the villas.

A mix of reading and large illustrated books were selected to capture island life, ocean, and nature inhabiting the archipelago of the Seychelles. These were selected for guests to easily dip in and out of from the comfort of their villas. After refining this selection, Six Senses then asked Ultimate Library to curate a larger bespoke Library collection in line with work previously done with other Six Senses properties like Six Senses Yao Noi.

Using the interior joinery drawings of the library to estimate quantities of books needed to fill the shelves, titles were chosen to reflect the guest demographic at Six Senses as well as the luscious location of the hotel, from; local history, Indian Ocean, current interests, fiction, art, fashion, world photography, the sea and island living. Within this collection a blend of English and International language books were hand picked in a range of formats; reading and reference titles were selected to be displayed on the shelves and in artistic piles on coffee tables, as well as a selection of varying sizes of illustrated coffee table books to be displayed on book stands, and dotted around the room on tables to encourage guests to pick them up. For younger guests, books were selected to enhance their stay covering topics such as island life and sea creatures, including gift books to welcome them to the island. Happy children make for happy parents!

In summer 2016 books were shipped to Zil Pasyon in clearly marked boxes (location and book category) ready for immediate and easy installation by the team onsite. Installation included a guide to laying out the books by subject and theme within the library, as well as branded marketing tools – created with Six Senses Style Guidelines – to better maintain and promote the book amenity; signage to sit on and around the book selection in the library to explain to guests the use of the book collection; and two styles of bookplates for the library and Villas to sit inside the books to encourage guests to use and enjoy the books, but return them once they had finished, allowing future guests to enjoy this amenity too.

“From the beginning we wanted books to be a key component for the guests at the hotel, from titles that could be easily accessed in the villas, to an extensive library collection. We wanted guests to be able to relax and take some time out with a book that would engage with the rich culture of the Seychelles. Ultimate Library were the perfect team to partner with on this project, they had a clear understanding of location, guest insight and Six Senses. The book collection curated by them is perfect for our location and a great amenity for our guests. We would highly recommend their services again. ”
