Library Set Up And Operational Guidelines

We offer an out-of-the-box service. In our experience the key to success of your library is ensuring that it is properly laid out, communicated and maintained from day one. And it is a fully integrated service, promoted appropriately in the hotel services directory, integrated into the feedback loop and the day-to-day service schedule. Good operational management is the key to reducing shrinkage and the longevity of your books.

Working with your management team, we will advise on all the elements above and develop operational guidelines to include title categorization, suggested library layout, display, stock checking standards, feedback, interdepartmental liaison between housekeeping and library. These will form part of the brief for the library champion. We provide onsite visits to train staff, set up the initial library and advise on ongoing maintenance.

Bookplates & bookmarks

Bespoke bookplates

We have a simple design service for bookplates that will help to personalize each book to your hotel. We find that it also helps to prevent loss.

Each bookplate would feature your logo(s) and be adapted to fit in seamlessly with any existing branding.








Bookmarks

Bookmarks as part of your amenity kit or laid beside the bed are a great help for guests. They also provide a simple way to communicate the use of the library facility through short copy printed on the bookmark itself. Please contact us to ask for a sample bookmark design

Book processing

All books can arrive shelf-ready with laminated jackets to protect your investment, bookplates that personalize and identify each book and more fully explain your library policy. For larger titles we suggest that all jackets are laminated before shipping as this increases their shelf-life and helps protect them from wear and tear.

Often customers ask us to pre-process their library by adding custom category stickers which allow the titles to be quickly and easily shelved correctly on arrival, inserting custom bookplates which help reduce shrinkage and even packing titles according to specific library location if necessary.

Fitting the books from your library seamlessly into your property, or even into individual rooms, can be a design challenge all of its own. We understand that you need to have flexible and stylish solutions available so we have a variety of clean, modern and innovative display options on offer which simultaneously store, display and make a feature of your book selection.

Invisible shelving units which allow for small stacks of books to be displayed on any wall or flat surface, highlighting the books themselves and providing sensible, modern storage.

Easy access, slide-on, slide-off hanging racks which allow guests to instantly and easily access any of the available titles. Ideal for more communal areas, or for any reference or guidebook titles that you choose to offer your guests.

We can also provide innovative solutions for paperbacks, hardbacks or even display stands and cases for any XXL format signature titles.

Marketing

In our experience the library is a valuable amenity the usage of which needs to be clearly explained both in the library itself and through good marketing copy in the guest directory. We can provide guest directory copy that will encourage and inspire guests to visit the library and use the service, by explaining how it works and highlighting the quality and range of books on offer.

In the library itself, we can provide shelf category signage and clear customer guidelines to facilitate guest use. If required we can also provide marketing copy for your website to help promote the amenity.

Seasonal Update Service

A library should be a vibrant, intelligent reflection of our environment and the world we live in. The global agenda is constantly changing and in response to this over 125,000 new books are published every year in English alone. It is difficult to keep up with the pace of what matters and what will suit your guests. Books suffer from wear and tear, others disappear leaving unsightly gaps on the shelves.

Our seasonal update service is designed to solve this problem and operates on a simple standing order basis to refresh your library regularly and ensures that your guests have access to the season's new publications, recent prizewinners and the most talked about books. There are two approaches:


Option A

We supply recommended lists by category each publishing season (twice a year). You select from these, add your own choices (they may have been suggested by your guests), we supply by return.

Option B

You set a purchase budget each year against a predetermined profile from our book categories. We buy according to your profile and keep you informed of progress. We review your profile annually together with you. You are free to buy at any time in the year by simply sending us an email.

You chose the option that best fits your preference, complete the attached profile sheet, or send us a short description of your needs and we do the rest.

Installation and training

We have wide ranging experience in creating and fitting libraries both large and small, and we can offer a full installation service. If required we can also provide you with bespoke shelving and library furniture to complement and best display your book collection, or plans and designs to help best layout the room.

Alongside a comprehensive library set-up kit and manual, we are also able to offer full training for all staff who might have administrative access to the library. This would include basic library administration skills, book care and stock control as well as a full briefing on the library contents and selections.
